Speaking at an interaction organized by the Human Rights Journalist Association (HURJA) on the occasion of its seventh anniversary Tuesday, Chairman Upadhyay said the cases of human rights violation were not decreasing due to government´s decision to beg pardon to the guilty persons involved in the human rights violation.
Updahyay said, "Decision has been made to beg pardon to the guilty without before drafting the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, confiscated properties were not returned and there is no environment to return homes to the people displaced by the conflict. These incidents show the government has not paid attention to the human rights."
He said the UCPN (Maoist) has only given attention to the integration and management of the PLA combatants and neglected the issue of human rights violations during and after the insurgency.
On the occasion, human rights activist, Daman Nath Dhungana accused the government of trying to escape by making pretension of peace process and constitution writing. Mr. Dhungana said the constitution written after five months was not acceptable to the country people.
Member-Secretary of the National Dalit Commission, Jiban Pariyar urged all to think seriously as the people of Dalit communities were losing their lives on the charge of touching ovens and water pots in the tap.
HURJA Nepal has announced to provide Rs. 10,000 to the family of Man Bir Sunar of Jubitha-6 of Kalikot. Similarly, the organization announced the establishment of the Human Rights Journalism Prize by contributing a revolving fund of Rs. 100,000. The prize would be given from next year, said HURJA´s chairman, Chhatra Shankar.
