KATHMANDU, Dec 20: Former President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has extended congratulations to KP Sharma Oli and other newly elected leaders of the CPN-UML following the party’s 11th National General Convention, three days after Oli secured his third term as party chair by defeating Ishwar Pokhrel.
In a congratulatory message, Bhandari, also a former UML vice-chair, said the party’s selection of new leadership through democratic competition reflects its organisational maturity and the vibrant practice of People’s Multiparty Democracy. She described open contestation as a natural and essential democratic process that strengthens institutions.

Bhandari wished Oli, the newly elected office bearers, central committee members and commission members a successful tenure. She also thanked convention delegates, observers, volunteers, health workers and artists for their contributions.
Expressing confidence in the new leadership, she said the party would move forward by reinforcing internal democracy, collective leadership and organisational unity under the guiding principles of UML’s ideology.
