Former Indian soldier arrested in connection with murder of woman in Bagbazar

KATHMANDU, May 14: Police have arrested a former Indian soldier in connection with the murder of a woman in Bagbazar, Kathmandu.


The victim, Bimala Tamang, 28, originally from Nuwakot Suryagadhi Municipality-1 and residing in Tarakeshwar Municipality-2, Kavresthali, was found dead.

On the evening of April 11, around 5:45 pm, her body was discovered in a room of a guest house in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-28.


As her death appeared suspicious, the police launched an investigation. During the investigation, it was revealed that the man who had been with her in the room had fled the scene.


The police arrested 40-year-old Ram Chandra Panta, originally from Galchi Rural Municipality, Dhading and residing in Tarakeshwar Municipality-2, Kavresthali, on Tuesday. He had fled to India, and after receiving information that he had returned to Nepal, the police arrested him from Nagdhunga.


The Singh Durbar Police Station has launched further investigation into the case.
