KATHMANDU, Nov 6: Minister for Finance Barshaman Pun has held discussions with Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala about bringing a new budget by forging political consensus.

During the meeting held at Koirala´s residence on Tuesday morning, Minister Pun urged the NC president to take initiatives for bringing the full-size budget in time based on political consensus. [break]

Minister Pun, who is also the UCPN (Maoist) leader, told journalists that he held discussions with NC President Koirala on other political issues too as the political parties have agreed on to hold fresh elections to the constituent assembly.

Minister Pun further said that he urged Koirala to understand the reality as the government employees would not get their salaries and economic crisis would further deepen if the budget was not unveiled in time.

However, Koirala told the Finance Minister not to bring the budget adding that that foils the politics of consensus, according to the NC central committee member Dr Minendra Rijal, who was also present at the meeting.

Rijal said support from the national and international levels would be received if budget was brought only after consensus as the parties have already forged consensus to hold fresh elections by May, 2013.

Minister Pun hoped that the full budget would come based on the political consensus at the top leadership level.

Asked about conflict between the President and government, the Finance Minister said that both the institutions should move forward by joining hands together as they were the only two elected bodies in the country after the dissolution of the constituent assembly.
