KALIKOT, August 1: The flood victims from Shantighat village in Kalikot district have headed to Kathmandu to knock the doors at the Singha Durbar as the state continues to neglect them more than a month after the flood.

A seven-member delegation led by the coordinator of the Flood Victim Struggle Committee Birkha Bahaur Shahi left for the capital on Thursday to demand adequate assistance from the government-as advised by the District Administration Office. [break]

The flood in the third week of June had killed 11 people, swept away 13 houses, more than 70 water mills and vast swathes of paddy field, destroying properties worth millions of rupees at Shantighat.

So far, only the families of three deceased persons have received a relief package of 40,000 rupees each while the district administration office has provided merely five thousand rupees to each of the victimized families.

Kalikot District Administration Office suggested the flood victims to visit the capital to draw the attention of the government, stating that it was in no position to provide more relief amount for them, informed the victims.

The 13 families displaced by the flood have been living under tents while 45 more families whose houses were badly damaged by the flood are compelled to live in a precarious condition.
