KATHMANDU, Aug 5: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has warned of possible flooding in six major rivers across the country until Wednesday, urging the public and local authorities to remain on high alert.
According to the department, water levels are expected to rise in the East Rapti, Bagmati, Mahakali, Karnali, Bheri, and West Seti rivers. Flood expert Binod Parajuli said the Babai River crossed the danger level by midday on Tuesday, although the water level has since started to decrease.

“The warning level for the Babai River is 5.5 meters and the danger level is 6.8 meters. It reached 7.1 meters by Tuesday noon, but receded to 6.62 meters later in the afternoon,” Parajuli said.
He also warned of a significant rise in water flow in smaller rivers in Kavrepalanchok, Makwanpur, Dang, Banke, Chitwan, Kailali, Kanchanpur, and surrounding districts. These areas face a high risk of flash floods, and residents have been urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
Parajuli added that early warning systems are actively disseminating information in high-risk areas.
