Five million transacted in cooperative festival

LALITPUR, Dec 23: A cooperative festival organized here on the occasion of the International Cooperative Year has made the transaction of Rs 5 million.



The three-day festival was visited by nearly half million people.[break]



Speaking at the concluding function of the festival on Sunday, Minister for Cooperatives, Eknath Dhakal, said it had been difficult for the ministry to monitor cooperatives because of its large number.



"The Ministry was doing homework to bring new policy to monitor the cooperatives," he added.



The products promoted by the cooperatives run by women entrepreneurs were liked much during the festival.



"Cultural stalls as of Newari was thronged much," said Ballav Timalsina, Manager of the Lalitpur Saving and Credit Cooperatives.



The festival was organized to promote handicrafts, and local products as coffee and tea, said the organizers.



The festival was organized jointly by 13 cooperatives of Lalitpur district.



There are a total of 26,501 cooperatives in Nepal.
