Finance Minister says budget to focus on self-reliance

BUTWAL, April 17: Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel has said the government will introduce policies and programs, and budget aimed at meeting the constitutional objectives of building an independent, self-sufficient and productive society.

Addressing a gathering of tourism entrepreneurs from Nepal National Tourism Entrepreneurs Organization Province No 5 in Bhairahawa on Sunday, he said the government was committed to bringing programmes in line with the policy of building a prosperous Nepal, economic development and happy future for the Nepalis.


The Finance Minister stated the government would introduce a special program aimed at the prosperity of the communities from the Madhes, Hills and the Mountain regions who are left behind in terms of economic development.

"The government will not allow budgetary shortfall in investments for the development of the agriculture, tourism and water resources for building a prosperous Nepal," he said, adding that international investment would be promoted in the Lumbini region.

Minister Poudel further said the Lumbini Master Plan would be completed within the next two years, incorporating Lumbini, Tilaurakot, Ramgram, Tribeni, Devdaha and surrounding areas.

"Constitution is not an iron cast. It can be amended as required and there is no rationale to launch an agitation over some provisions of the constitution," he said in reference to the agitation program announced by the Madhes-centric parties.

Stating that the current government will be the last one formed by the present parliament, Finance Minister Poudel reiterated that this government would fulfill its responsibility by implementing federalism and the constitution as well as holding the election to the local bodies and the province and federal legislatures.

Minister for Industry Som Prasad Pandey claimed that the country could metamorphose through systematisation of the tourism industry.
