KATHMANDU, Sept 23: To crack down on the practice of black marketeering of bus tickets, cheating passengers by selling fake tickets, and overloading passenger buses during festive seasons, the police have devised a security operation targeting different fraud prone areas in the Valley.

At the program held to unveil the security plan, DIG Keshav Adhikari, chief of Metropolitan Police Traffic Division, said, “Anyone is found involved in black marketeering of bus tickets, selling fake tickets or driving overcrowded buses or vans would be charged strictly.”

We will have special help desks manned by police personnel at different entrance and exit check posts in the valley and in different transportation hubs like bus park and ticket counters, DIG Adhikari said.

The help desks will be set up at different places like Balaju Buspark, Old Buspark, Kalanki, Gaushala, Koteshwar, Dhunge Adda, Balambu, Sundhara, Satdobato, Swayambhu, Naagdhunga and other places.

Altogether more than 10,000 security personnel will be deployed in the Kathmandu Valley who will carry out 24-hour checking at major check posts. Metropolitan Police currently has 8,648 personnel and additional personnel will be deployed based on the situation and sensitivity, SSP Hemanta Bahadur Pal, spokesperson of MPCO said.

The police is taking serious steps to prevent theft and robbery at homes when people are away to celebrate the festival, SSP Subodh Ghimire, chief of Metropolitan Police Range Office, said.

Under the special security plan, the MPCO will have a separate unit of plainclothes police that will keep vigil around banking sectors, shopping malls, livestock markets. The police have also decided to act tough against illegal gambling.

For the effective implementation of the security plan, the police will seek cooperation from the public, officials claimed.

Sniffer dogs would be frequently used at different entry points, religious places, and government offices, according to the police.

Meanwhile, different joint committees in the participation of locals have been formed to crack down crimes during festival season. Prem Lo Lama, a member of joint committee at Ichangu, Swyambhu, said, "We are ready to work together because public participation in cracking down the crime is essential."
