KATHMANDU, Feb 24: A female Inspector of the Armed Police Force (APF) was found hanging at the Crowd and Riot Control Training in Lamapatan, Pokhara on Saturday night.
The deceased has been identified as Inspector Santoshi Mahat, who was undergoing training in Pokhara. Mahat, who originally hailed from Sindhupalchowk, is an Inspector of the 17th Basic (2081 BS) batch. She was undergoing basic training for the position of Inspector. She was found hanging near the women's toilet of the barracks.

Her body has been brought to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu for a postmortem. She was recruited as a soldier in the APF in 2072 BS and was promoted through open competition to ASI in 2078 BS. Then, she passed the competitive examination of Inspector in 2081 BS.
According to family sources, Mahat allegedly had a love affair with an Inspector of the 16th Basic of the APF. However, it is said that she may have committed suicide as the relationship came to an abrupt end.
According to police, the victim's family has filed a complaint at the District Police Office, Kaski, against a male Inspector working at the APF No 23 Manakamana Battalion in Bhanu, Tanahun, accusing him of abetting her to commit suicide.
The APF Headquarters has formed a five-member investigation committee under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DIG) Laxman Singh, who works at the National Armed Police Force Training Academy, Matatirtha.
