Fans Club enters semifinal

DHANKUTA, June 15: Defending champions Fans Club BRC of Bhutan on Monday overcame Blue team of host Dhankuta 5-2 in a high scoring match to book semifinal berth of the Martyrs Bhim Narayan International Gold Cup Football Tournament being held in Dhankuta.

Fans Club comprising mostly of Nepal's A division players took an early fourth minute lead through Barsat Gurung who made a spectacular goal beating past three defenders of home team. Prakash Budathoki doubled the tally moments later capitalizing on a pass of Suman Lama.Dhankuta cut the goal deficit in the 35th minute after the home team was awarded penalty. Raj Kandangwa netted the penalty awarded after Susan Lama brought down Inam Tamang of Dhankuta inside the danger zone. Rupesh KC restored the Fans lead in two minutes in similar fashion through spot kick when Pakash Budathoki was fouled inside the zone by Anish Shrestha.

Dinesh Rajbanshi widened the goal margin for Fans making 4-1 in the early second half. Dil Bahadur Magar scored for Fans in the 67th with a spectacular header but Ramesh Dangal ensured the 5-2 win for Fans in the 70th.

Susan Lama of Fans was declared the man-of-the-match and awarded Rs 2000 for his feat.

Earlier, on Sunday, Jhapa XI edged past Rastriya Jagriti Club 2-1 with both goals coming from Buddha Chemjong.

Home team Dhankuta Red will vie against Morang XI on Monday.
