PANCHTHAR, April 26: Maoists have continued their donation drive, extortion, land seizure and kidnappings in Panchthar.

In the last one month, the party has captured land from two people and kidnapped one person. It captured 200 ropanis of land belonging to RPP Nepal´s vice chairman Padam Sundar Lawati in Angna-5 Sunday. [break]

The Maoists also seized 35 ropanis of land belonging to former minister Premraj Angdambe, a Nepali Congress leader, in Phidim-3 last month.

Maoists kidnapped Nepali Congress cadre Ganesh Dulal from Lurungpa-9 five days ago. Dulal, however, managed to give the slip to the Maoists.

Maoist Panchthar in-charge Harka Nembang said there is no reason for the Maoists to abide by the peace agreement anymore as the government has not abided by the agreement. He accused Lawati of plotting false charges against Maoist cadres.

The local civil society members and human rights activists have said the incidents of threats and extortions have increased since both the administration and the Maoists are unwilling to act responsibly.

Maoists target Khand

Meanwhile, our correspondent Dil Bahadur Chhatyal reported from Dhangadhi that Maoist cadres attacked a vehicle carrying Minister for Irrigation Bal Krishna Khand at Tikapur of Kailali and greeted him with black flags.

Though Khand´s vehicle and Khand himself escaped unhurt, windowpanes of a vehicle belonging to Regional Irrigation Office were shattered when the Maoists pelted stones at the minister´s convoy.

Khand was on his way to attend a program where he was expected to hold talks with flood victims at Narayanpur VDC-9. The program was postponed following Maoist obstruction.

The Maoists also vandalized furniture at the program venue.

Meanwhile, Khand visited Narayanpur and Dhansinghpur VDCs to inspect the damages caused by floods.

The police escorted him to Tikapur via an alternative route after the Maoists obstructions, SP Yogeshwor Romkhami said.
