KATHMANDU, Sept 4: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal has emphasized that embossed vehicle number plates are essential for realizing the vision of a Digital Nepal.
Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, Dahal said that agreements for embossed number plates had already been made under previous governments and failing to install them would cost the government Rs 3 billion in compensation to construction companies. He clarified that the current government is implementing a prior agreement, not initiating a new one.
Will embossed number plates be installed to 2,400,000 vehicles...
According to the transport ministry, 635,545 embossed numbers have already been printed and 87,989 installed on private and government vehicles. Dahal highlighted that embossing vehicle numbers will provide a unified database of all vehicles nationwide, helping prevent theft, revenue evasion and streamline licensing processes.
He added that the embossed numbers are in English to ensure international compatibility for cross-border travel and other digital government services such as passports, national IDs, driver licenses and land registration in line with Nepal’s Digital Nepal initiative.
