Elephant tramples woman to death in Sarlahi

SARLAHI, June 29: A wild elephant trampled a woman to death at Chandranagar, Lalbandi-7 here in the district, Friday evening.



According to police station at Lalbandi, the deceased has been identified as Madhumaya Yonjan, 42, at around 7.30 Friday evening while she was on her way to home from jungle collecting fodders.[break]



According to Sub Inspector Deepak KC, Yonjan died on the spot following the attack.



Yonjan was killed despite the Armed Police Force and the forest security guards’s effort to chase away the wild elephants ever since they appeared at Attrauli area early yesterday morning.



The elephant has also destroyed a house belonging to Kishun Mahato and consumed the rice stored inside the house.



Meanwhile, locals are being terrorized due to unexpected appearance of the elephants in the area.According to SP Uma Sankar Panjiyar, a police team has been deployed at the area to chase away the elephants since Saturday morning.
