KATHMANDU, Feb 22: To make the election more participatory and reduce the invalid vote rate, the Election Commission has been pushing forward a nationwide voter education program.
The commission has been implementing the approved voter education program to inform citizens about the importance of voting rights and the voting process. According to the commission, from February 15 to March 1, one voter education volunteer has been deployed in each of the 6,743 wards of 753 local levels across the country.

The commission stated that deployed volunteers are reaching voters’ settlements and doorsteps and informing them about the importance of elections and the voting process using sample ballot papers.
For the purpose of the voter education program, the commission has already designated previously appointed local contact persons as monitors of the voter education campaign and completed their orientation.
The commission has also been making maximum efforts to monitor individuals who spread false and misleading information and hate speech in violation of the election code of conduct, and to bring those involved in illegal activities under the law in coordination with regulatory bodies.
It said the Information Integrity Promotion Unit under the Election Information Communication and Coordination Center established at the commission is fully active.
Complaints have been filed with the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police for action under the Electronic Transactions Act 2008 against 290 content producers and disseminators involved in producing and spreading harmful information.
Likewise, 11 cases have been forwarded to the Nepal Telecommunications Authority for action under the Telecommunications Act 1995. Similarly, 65 cases have been sent to the Press Council Nepal under the Press Council Act 1991, and one case has been forwarded for action under the Advertisement Regulation Act 2019, the commission stated.
