Election process begins at NTUC convention

CHITWAN, Aug 27: The election process for the new leadership of Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC) has started Tuesday.



According to Gobinda Sigdel, election officer, the NTUC election which began from 9 am this morning would last till 4 pm today.[break]



A total of 161 members have nominated their candidacies for 37-member new working committee of the NTUC.



Two separate panels led by Khilanath Dahal and Pushkar Acharya are in election race.



Acharya is close to Party President Sushil Koirala whereas Dahal is close to senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba.



Similarly, Ramji Kunwar, Reeta Khanal and Krishna Prasad Poudel are the competitors for the senior vice chairperson post.



Likewise, Mahendra Prasad Yadav, Achyut Raj Pandey and Dhrubachandra Gautam have filed candidacies for the general secretary. As many as 21 candidates are competing for seven women central members.



The general convention that began on Sunday is concluding today with electing a new 37-member central committee.
