KATHMANDU, Nov 25: As part of preparations for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) elections scheduled for March 5, the Election Commission (EC) has submitted another proposal to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), stating that the government’s allocation of budget is insufficient and requesting additional funds.
According to EC Joint Spokesperson Prakash Neupane, the amount provided by the government is not enough to cover all election-related expenses, prompting the EC to seek more resources.

The EC had initially requested Rs 7.81 billion to conduct the elections. Of this, the government has so far released Rs 4.96 billion. Since the amount falls short, the EC has requested an additional budget of up to Rs 1.90 billion, Neupane said.
“The budget provided by the government for the elections was very limited,” he said. “Since there is a possibility that we may be forced to conduct the elections under major constraints, the EC has submitted a proposal for an additional budget to the Home Ministry. The Home Ministry has informed us that it is in the process of forwarding the proposal to the Ministry of Finance.”
