Saraswati had received her citizenship card from a mobile team on March 3, 2007 and Bhirbaniya had received hers from Banke District Administration Office (DAO) on May 14, 2013.
Similar is the case of Gueti Tharuni of Phatepur VDC-7 and Lurni Tharuni of Phatepur VDC-9. Gueti had received her citizenship certificate from DAO on March 17, 1996 and Lurni had received hers from a mobile team on April 5, 1988. Both of them bear an identical card number 730.These are just two representative cases. Duplication of citizenship card number has remain a major headahce for the locals.
"I have immensely suffered due to the problem in my card. I have asked the DAO to correct the mistake but they have not been doing anything to alleviate my suffering," said Saraswati. "It seems that the DAO cannot correct the mistake," she added.
Chief District Officer (CDO) Bedprasad Lekhak also acknowledged the problem of locals. "Duplication of identity card number is a major issue. We need to address this problem as soon as possible," said Lekhak.
Similar was the comment of a local social worker, Ramlal Tharu. "Regardless of government's help, I am also doing all possible from my side to help the victims," said Tharu.
