Some locals residing in those villages have already relocated to safer places on their own, while others are still living in those areas putting their lives at risk in lack of suitable alternatives or support from the authorities.
Among those villages, Kapur village in Lapa VDC, situated at the foot of a cliff faces imminent risk of landslip. Despite the dangers, a total of 65 households are compelled to live in the village.Likewise, Hunding of Sertung, Chepang settlement of Mahadevsthan, and Khurpekhola of Nilkantha municipality are at high risk of landslide, according to Basudev Ghimire, chief district officer of Dhading.
"With landslide cutting off the road connecting our village with the district headquarters, it feels like we are living in an exile," Dinesh Tamang, a local said."
He further informed that all the houses of Kapur village were turned into rubble due to the earthquake of April 25, which also killed four people.
"If the remaining 297 locals from the village are not evacuated immediately, it may result in more human casualties in future," Dinesh added.
Similar is the situation in Lapa VDC-2, where 75 households have been displaced after their homes got destroyed in the quake.
The displaced locals are forced to live in temporary shelters in a community forest, which is 3 km from the village. Likewise, quake-hit locals from Ri VDC, which lost 78 of its residents in the natural disaster, have also moved to a different location temporarily.
"The displaced locals will return to their homes only after engineers inspect them," according to another local, Bahandur Tamang.
CDO Ghimire also informed that more than half of 119 households from Ri village have shifted to Pokhara and Dhadingbesi area. Around 150 households from northern parts of the district are living under tents.
Meanwhile, a five-member district level task force coordinated by the chief district engineer has been formed to rehabilitate local settlements at risk of landslides. The task force has been assigned to identify a proper place for resettling the displaced people within five days.
Those who are most vulnerable to landslide will be relocated first and the DDRC will also draw up a sustainable rehabilitation plan for the displaced quake victims, CDO Ghimire informed.
