KATHMANDU, Dec 13: Director Ghanashyam Lamichhane's film about a marginalized woman and her struggles will be screening across theaters in the country on December 25. 'Dhauli' stars Geeta Adhikari in the lead role and also features Bishnu Gautam who is debuting with this film. The film will be released within the Kathmandu valley on January 1.

At a press meet on Sunday, director Lamichhane explained that the film centers on love affair between a Dalit woman and a Brahmin man. "The protagonist is a Dalit woman of 40 with a child and a husband who has gone abroad for work. A Brahmin man then falls in love with her. Thus the film attempts to tell that love sees neither age nor caste. It can happen to anyone."Actor Gautam claims that the film is highly relevant to the current context of Nepal. "I think we all see the communication gap between the rich and the poor in this country. Furthermore, the issues of migration and the caste system aren't new either. I feel many individuals will be able to relate to this drama," he says.

Director Lamichhane explained that one of the main challenges of the film was to show the life and struggle of the marginalized caste. "Highlighting the story of a marginalized group is a bit risky. Because most people will tell you that it won't work commercially. But I saw it as an opportunity for me to grow and polish my skills. I feel we, as a team, have done a good job to bring suspense and emotion to the table."

Actor Geeta Adhikari who has been in the Nepali film industry for over a decade, claims that her character Dhauli is different from the ones she did in the past. "The film is about a woman whose life is full of hardships. She not only suffers as a Dalit woman but she is also subjected to domestic and sexual violence. 'Dhauli' is about her life and her struggle. I had not dealt with this kind of role before so it was a little challenging but I enjoyed every bit of the process," she shares.
