Department of Information to oversee online media registration

KATHMANDU, Sept 26: The government has decided that the registration and renewal of online media will be carried out directly by the Department of Information and Broadcasting.



Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel disclosed the decision following a Council of Ministers meeting held today at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM). He noted that the previous administration had tasked local administration offices with the registration and renewal of online media.

The cabinet has also designated Minister Kharel as the official spokesperson of the government, he added.


Speaking about his first cabinet meeting, Minister Kharel said several other decisions related to the communications sector were taken, and the remaining announcements will be made during the regular press briefing on Friday.
