Crops and animals insurance excites Terhathum farmers

TERHATHUM, Jan 21: Introduction of crops and domestic animals insurance schemes have excited the Terhatuhum district farmers. Oriental Insurance, recently introduced these schemes in the district.

Speaking at the orientation organized at Myanglung on Thursday, director of the company Shreeman Karki said farmers from all over the district can benefit from their insurance policy. “As our country is highly dependent on agriculture, we hope farmers can take advantage of our insurance policy,” he said.


Krishna Ghimire, executive officer of Local Development Fund, Terhathum, said it is easy to take insurance from the company, while complaining that the process to acquire insurance amount is lengthy and full of hassles.

“The company should streamline its procedure on settling insurance claims and make it hasslefree for the farmers to receive insurance claims in speedy manner,” he stressed and requested the company's director to take necessary initiatives towards it.

Number of farmers taking the service is growing everyday and they have provided positive feedbacks, claimed branch manager Arjun Dungana. According to him, the company has already insured 124 goats, 23 boars, and over five dozens chickens among other animals since the one-and-a-half month of the company's operation in the district.
