CPN-Maoist withdraws ban on Hindi movies

KATHMANDU, Oct 11: The CPN-Maoist has lifted the ban on the screening of Hindi movies across the country in view of nearing the festive season on Thursday, the party said in a press statement .



The party had been preventing the screening of Hindi movies in a bid ‘to safeguard national sovereignty’ and ‘to promote self-reliant national economy´  since September 10 across the country. [break]



CPN-Maoist’s move had forced the cinema halls to stop screening Hindi  movies  for the past 10 days.



A total of Rs 20 to 25 million in average is estimated to be the loss that the cinema halls have incurred with the ban of Hindi movies, Ashok Sharma, managing director of Digital Cinema Nepal said.
