Issuing a joint statement on Saturday, the unions have asked the guardians not to admit their children in the school, which, they have accused, uses textbooks that undermine the national sovereignty. [break]The agitating unions have said that they were compelled to step in after the government failed to take any action against the school.
“We urge the guardians to not to send their children to the school which has defied the government order to remove textbooks that mention that Lord Buddha was born in India and that Mount Everest is located in India,” said Gun Raj Lohani, chairman of All Nepal Teachers´ Union (ANTU).
The ANTU has been protesting against the school after it fired two teachers Sagar Thapa and Santosh Jha in September accusing them of conspiring against the school administration.
The DAV school administration has also fired more teachers for expressing solidarity with the ANTU protest programs in the past few months. The school has refused to reinstate the teachers despite an order of the District Education Office Lalitpur to do so.
