MAHOTTARI, March 15: Mahottari District Court on Tuesday remanded three persons to custody for their alleged involvement in murdering Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Thaman Bahadur BK of the Armed Police Force.

Pradeep Kumar Sah, Pramod Gami and Mohan Thakur, who have been arrested so far in the case, are the members of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF). They have been sent to Jaleswar Prison on Tuesday. Immediately after the court decision, irate locals and UDMF cadres took to the streets and chanted slogans against the move. According to UDMF leaders, the local administration had framed them and protested against the district court's decision to send them to prison instead of giving them 'justice'.Twenty-eight persons have been charged with the murder of the Armed Police Force ASI BK while 25 others have been charged for vandalizing the ambulance he was traveling on. Most of the accused are frontline leaders of Madhes-based political parties from the UDMF.

Joint general secretary Yadav of Sadbhawana Party, Mohan Thakur, Shankar Kumar Mishra, Laxmi Mahato and Abhiram Sharma of Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party, Kaushal Kumar Yadav of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal and Suresh Pandey of Tarai-Madhes Sadbhawana Party are among the accused. All of them have been ordered to be present at the court within 30 days, informed registrar Bhoj Kumar Basnet.

Security on the premises of the district court was tightened as the case was of serious nature.

"We had tightened the security to avert any untoward incident during the hearings," said Superintendent of Police (SP) Janak Bhattarai, chief of the District Police Office, Mahottari.

There was thick presence of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel. No one besides employees of the court and media persons were allowed on the court premises.

Locals and UDMF cadres had mercilessly beat up ASI BK at Jaleshwar last September. The injured BK was being taken to Janakpur in an ambulance after the incident. However, the protestors got hold of the ambulance and subsequently killed him. They had also torched the ambulance.
