The consignment was previously imported and was being re-exported to another country under the quota allocated for Nepali betel nuts. [break]Since the practice of re-exporting products under quota allocated for Nepali products is illegal the Revenue Investigation Department (RID) and the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had launched an investigation into the matter.
But before the RID and CIAA could take any action, Justices Rewant Bahadur Kunwar and Kumar Chudal on Thursday issued an interim order paving the way for the re-export of the products.
The interim order says: “Since the investigation could take a long time, petitioners, as per the existing laws, can re-export the product if they deposit the necessary bail amount.”
The consignment of betel nuts, which was confiscated on May 13, was registered in the name of Sukdev Mandal of Sorabhag VDC-3. It is said the exporters had relied on forged documents to re-export the cargo.
