President of the Biratnagar chapter of Appellate Court Bar Association, Kumar Bhattarai, Morang chapter President Devendra Koirala and Appellate Court Bar Association Sunsari chapter President Hem Raj Pokharel jointly filed a contempt of court case on Wednesday in which Nepal Republic Media Pvt. Ltd, its Managing Director Binod Raj Gyawali, Director Shova Gyawali, Editor Narayan Wagle, Nagarik´s Biratnagar based correspondent Khilanath Dhakal and Morang SSP Pradhumna Karki have been named defendants. The case was filed after Nagarik published a news about Appellate Court´s decision to release an accused involved in an abduction case.
"We filed the case as the news story published in Nagarik daily undermined the independence of court and also attempted to defame judges," said Biratnagar Appellate Court Bar Association President Bhattarai.
