KATHMANDU, July 18: Minister for Information and Communications, Raj Kishor Yadav has said that he could not make media houses inclusive, despite his wishes to do so.

"Even though I had tried my best to make the State-run media houses like the Nepal Television, Radio Nepal, Gorkhapatra Sansthan and the Rastriya Samachar Samiti inclusive, I could not be totally successful in my goal," said the Communications Minister. [break]

During his meeting with pro-Madhes journalists who are on a hunger strike, calling for making media houses inclusive, Minister Yadav said he was not in a condition to address the demand.

He suggested to those media workers from the Madhesi, Dalit, women and ethnic communities to unite for guaranteeing their rights.

The Madhesi Journalists´ Society Nepal has begun a hunger strike at the hall of the Madhes Media House, accusing the Ministry, Federation of Nepali Journalists and Kathmandu-based media houses of violating the principle of inclusiveness.

The society has also called for ending discrimination on the categorization of the Madhes-centric newspapers and has warned of continuing the strike until and unless its demand is addressed.
