Shakya was a member of the team that claimed gold medal in the inaugural edition of the South Asian Games held in Nepal in 1984.
Similarly, Nepal bagged gold medal in the 1993 SAG in Dhaka under Shakya's captaincy.
Shakya was an assistant coach during the eighth SAG held in Kathmandu in 1999 but Nepal settled for silver at that time.
Nepal, which was facing title drought since 1993, finally claimed an international title after 23 years during the Bangabandhu Gold Cup held in Bangladesh in January.
Coach Shakya is aiming to repeat the success of the 1993 SAG after 23 years by bagging the football title in the 12th edition being held in Guwahati and Shillong in India.
Nepal will face host India in the final at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Guwahati on Monday.
"India is the toughest team in South Asian. India is playing best game and it also has home advantage. However, anything can happen in a game," said coach Shakya, who added that Nepal can win gold if it plays similar game that it played against the Maldives in the semifinal.
Nepal defeated the Maldives 4-3 in the semifinal during the added 30 minutes with the help of Nawayug Shrestha's hat-trick.
Meanwhile, skipper Biraj Maharjan is also excited to play the final match.
"The team fought hard for two hours against the Maldives in the semifinal. The win has inspired the whole team and we want to claim gold," said Biraj.
