Speaking at a function organized by the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Radio Nepal chapter, Pokharel, who is also spokesperson for the government, said the cabinet has already concluded that the Maoist move has violated the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA). “The Code of Conduct of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement has clearly stated that the rebels are not allowed to stage protests like blockades and strikes,” he said.
The Maoists have announced three-day nationwide shutdown beginning December 20 as part of their ongoing movement against the government.
“Civil society members should speak up against such moves now,” said Pokharel, saying that there could be confrontation if the government itself came up against the Maoist moves.
Pokharel also said it is unfortunate to find a leader, who signed in the CPA and its provisions, declaring autonomous states against the spirit of the same agreement.
