Following a meeting with the top officials of all concerned ministries including the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) on Monday, the anti-graft body asked the government to provide the winter relief amount to all the victim families within a week.
The CIAA has stated that it has taken a serious note of the delay on the part of the government in distributing relief materials to the victims even amid freezing weather.
Secretaries and joint-secretaries of OPMCM and finance, home, health and federal affairs and local development ministries, and the chiefs of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force attended the meeting, according to the CIAA officials.
“During the discussion, we found that the lack of coordination between Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development was causing the delay in the distribution of the promised winter relief amount,” said Krishna Hari Pushkar, spokesperson of the CIAA, adding, that even the OPMCM was not playing an effective role in ensuring timely distribution of relief materials to the quake victims.
The anti-graft body asked all the concerned ministries to expedite efforts not only to provide winter relief amount but also other essential materials like medicines and foods in the affected areas.
“As many quake victims are falling ill and some have even died of the freezing weather, we ask the Ministry of Health to deploy emergency medical response teams with sufficient medicines and logistics in the affected areas right from Tuesday,” read the CIAA's statement.
