KATHMANDU, June 11: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against former Chief Administrative Officer of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Pradeep Pariyar, and six other municipal employees.
The CIAA lodged the case at the Special Court on Wednesday, accusing the officials of misusing authority in awarding a road construction contract. Each individual has been charged with causing a loss of Rs 43.17 million to the state.

Following the case registration, all seven officials, including Pariyar, have been suspended from their respective positions.
Pariyar currently serves as the Director General of the Department of Information and Broadcasting under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. He held the role of Chief Administrative Officer at Kathmandu Metropolitan City from mid-January 2024 to mid-September 2024.
Others named in the case include KMC officials Rabi Man Shrestha, Shivaraj Adhikari, Basanta Acharya, Nabaraj Dhakal, Assistant Director Uttam Dahal, and engineer Janardan Giri.
The CIAA claims the group improperly disqualified the lowest bidder, Samanantar Nirman Sewa, which had quoted Rs 180.92 million for a road project from Basundhara to Mhepi under the Samakhusi Corridor. Instead, the contract was awarded to Kalpavriksha Kohinoor JV, which had proposed a higher cost of Rs 224.09 million.
