Chinese delegation arriving Saturday

KATHMANDU, Aug 10: A five-member Chinese delegation, led by Vice-minister for Foreign Affairs Fu Ying, is arriving in Kathmandu to take part in the ninth meeting of Nepal-China Consultative Mechanism scheduled for Monday.



Officials at Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said the meeting is scheduled to hold discussions on various issues of mutual interests including trade, commerce, investment, border security, tourism promotion and management and development of physical infrastructures. [break]The meeting will also review the progress of the projects run with Chinese investment in Nepal. [break]

The foreign secretary level mechanism, established in 1966, meets every four years.



The Chinese delegation, which left for Thimpu from Beijing on Wednesday, is arriving in Kathmandu on Saturday. The delegation will leave for Beijing on Tuesday after a three-day visit to Kathmandu, according to Chief of Protocol at the MoFA Niranjan Man Singh Basnyat.



The foreign secretary-level Chinese delegation is arriving to Nepal close on the heels of a meeting in Beijing in July end between Nepalese Home Secretary Sushil Jung Bahadur Rana and his Chinese counterpart. The meeting had focused on curbing cross border crimes along Nepal-China border.



Officials said the Monday´s meeting will review the implementation of the agreements reached between the two countries during the visit of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in January.



The problems seen in the implementation of West Seti Project and Pokhara Regional Airport and other agreements between the two countries will be reviewed during the meeting.



China had announced to provide an assistance of 750 million Chinese Yuan to Nepal for the development of physical infrastructures during the visit of the Chinese premier.



Nepalese side is expected to seek soft loan from China for the construction of Upper Trishuli ´A´ Hydro Power Project and the proposed International Airport in Pokhara in the meeting.



Nepal and China have established two separate bilateral mechanisms, one at the level of foreign minister and another at the level of foreign secretary.
