Five players along with Tamang have been selected for participation in the Tournament. However, the embassy demanded that Tamang furnish confirmation letter from the organizers, while applications of other players and coach Dipak Shrestha were approved without any hassle. Coach Shrestha says, “The Nepal Karatedo Federation had not asked for confirmation letters with the organizers and this has created the problem.” Chinese Embassy is strict in granting visas to the Buddhist followers in Nepal.
Meanwhile, rest of the players and coach Shrestha are reluctant to go to Guangzhou as the federation had only offered to provide air-tickets and manage other expenses including accommodation on their own.
“This has discouraged players and they are unwilling to participate in the tournament now,” said Shrestha adding, “Even if they manage to go, I can´t go along with them as I can´t afford all expenses on my own.”
Binod Shakya, Ram Sharan Twanti, Srijana Tamang, Subhadra Shrestha and Parshuram Baskota were to take part in the Guangzhou event.
Keeping in view the ongoing preparations for the upcoming South Asian Games (SAG), the Ninth AKF Championship was being awaited as a significant event.
