Chaudhary, Pandey receives best boxers award

KATHMANDU, Oct 5: Nepal Army´s Prem Chaudhary and Armed Police Force´s Pramila Pandey were adjudged the best boxers in men´s and women´s section respectively in the Happy Deals All Nepal Men´s and Women´s Boxing Tournament on Friday.



Chaudhary has claimed gold medal in men´s flyweight (52 kg) event as he defeated Kabindra Maharjan of APF in the final match played at the National Table Tennis Training Center, Lainchaur on Friday. [break]Maharjan and Chaudhary both scored 12 points each in the final but Chaudhary was handed over the victory on the basis of judges´ individual scores.



Likewise, Pandey thrashed Lalita Maharjan of Bosigaun in the final of women´s light flyweight (45-48 kg) event with 25-3 points. Both Chaudhary and Pandey received gift hampers from digital television service provider Dish-Home and sportswear brand Adidas for being the best pugilists in the tournament organized by Nepal Boxing Association.



Meanwhile, Bikram Pariyar of APF stunned South Asian Games´ bronze and Sixth National Games´ gold medalist Laxman Saud from Kailali in the final of men´s light flyweight (46-49 kg) event. Pariyar won the match based on points, as it was 8-6 by the end of third and final round of the bout.



The Asian Games´ bronze medalist Deepak Maharjan has to spend only 2 minutes 58 seconds in the rings to win the final bout of light heavyweight event against Gokul Gurung of Naxal. Referee stopped the contest, as Maharjan was too harsh for Gurung.



Likewise, Shyam Khadka of Nepal Army was declared winner on the basis of RSC (referee stopped the contest) against Rabindra Bahadur Rokkaya of Kailali in the final of men´s super heavyweight (+91 kg) event.



Dinesh Shrestha of Nepal Police Club (NPC) defeated Ukesh Nagarkoti of APF in the final of men´s bantam (56 kg) while Purna Bahadur Lama of APF beat Surendra Bahadur Kathayat of NPC in the final bout of lightweight (60 kg) event.



In men´s light welterweight (64 kg) final, Bhupendra Thapa of NPC defeated Ek Bahadur Ghale. In an all-army final of men´s welterweight (69 kg), Bishnu Prasad Ghale beat Uddab Khatri.



Ujjar Singh Thapa of Nepal Army clinched the gold medal of men´s middleweight (75 kg) defeating Devendra Maharjan of APF by 11-6 points.



In women´s section, Diwana Sharma of NPC thrashed Sarmila Lama of Bhaktapur by 9-3 points in the final of pin weight (42-45 kg) while Maya Chaudhary of APF claimed the gold of women´s light flyweight (45-48 kg) as her opponent Prarusa Shrestha retired after the 1 minute 20 seconds of the first round.



Minu Gurung of Nepal Army beat Nisha Tamang of NPC in the final of women´s bantamweight (51-54 kg) and Sanju Lama of APF thrashed Bimala Chaudhary of Dang with 23-3 points in the final of women´s featherweight (54-57 kg).



Saraswati Rana of APF clinched the women´s lightweight (57-60 kg) gold as her opponent Punam Kumari Rawal of Bajhang retired just after 30 seconds of the first round of the final bout. Similarly, Kopila Singh of Bajhang retired in the first round of the women´s light welterweight (60-64 kg) final to hand over easy victory and the gold medal to Anuradha Lama of NPC.
