A cabinet meeting held on Thursday at Baluwatar approved the prime minister's five-day visit to India starting February 19.
However, the members of the prime minister's delegation has yet to be finalized, informed Minister for Information and Communication Sher Dhan Rai.
Oli's visit comes at a time when Nepal-India's relation has soured following India's blockade of Nepal-India border for over four months.
It has been learnt that the visit will focus on strengthening the bilateral relations rather than forging new agreements.
Prime Minster Oli had announced that he would not visit India until the blockade was lifted. It was only after supply via the Birgunj-Raxual customs point resumed that Oli started preparations for India visit.
Earlier, Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel had visited India to lay ground for the prime minister's visit.
Following the death of former prime minister Sushil Koirala, Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj visited Nepal on Tuesday and, during a brief meeting with Prime Minister Oli, had said that India was eager to welcome him and was making all necessary preparations for his visit.
Similarly, the cabinet meeting has appointed Dr Dibya Singh and Dr Dilip Sharma as cabinet doctors. They will look after the health of the members of the council of ministers.
"The government has also decided to provide Rs 1 million per family to the families of those killed in last month's Rangeli incident and provide free medical treatment to those injured in the incident," said Minister Rai. Three persons had died and several others were injured during a clash with police in Morang district in the third week of January.
