KATHMANDU, July 7: Bird flu has been brought under control in Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Mahottari, Bara, Chitwan, and Nawalparasi. The highly contagious disease had recently spread to 11 districts.
According to the Department of Livestock Services, bird flu has yet to be brought under control in four districts—Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, and Kavrepalanchok.
Bird flu-affected farmers to receive Rs 420 million in relief
The department's spokesperson, Dr. Mukul Upadhyay, said a technical team had been deployed and that all infected birds, bird products and poultry materials in the affected areas had been safely destroyed.
As part of the disease control efforts, the Animal Quarantine Office also destroyed illegally trafficked birds through heightened surveillance and patrols.
The department said restrictions on the sale and distribution of poultry products have been relaxed in areas where the disease has been brought under control.
According to Dr. Upadhyay, bird flu is a highly contagious disease affecting birds, and the department has deployed the necessary personnel in the affected areas in coordination with the federal, provincial and local governments.
