BARA, Aug 26: Revenue officials have initiated investigation against Bhawani Distillery based in Prasauni of Bara for allegedly using fake revenue stickers to evade taxes.

Inland Revenue Department (IRD) had instructed its Simara office a couple of weeks ago to look into the case.

Krishna Prasad Parajuli, chief of IRD´s Simara office, said investigation has been launched against the distillery.  The distillery has been accused of evading excise duty worth Rs 1.5 million by using fake revenue stickers. Similarly, it has also failed to produce the account of raw materials worth Rs 3 million.[break]

Preliminary investigation showed the distillery used fake stickers on 70 cartons of Extra Dry Gin produced by it. The bottles with face stickers were found at Shanti Traders, Janakpur.

The company paid around Rs 60 million in VAT, income tax and excise duty to the government in fiscal year 2012/13.

Ganesh Bhatta, marketing manager of the distillery, expressed ignorance over the ongoing revenue investigation. He also claimed that the company had not used fake stickers.
