Bhairahawa market-activity resumes

BUTWAL, Aug 21: Market-activities in Bhairahawa, which had shut down since the past nine days, has resumed from today morning although the shutdown has not been not called off by the enforcing political parties.

With the resumption of the market, vehicles plying on short haul have resumed services while educational institutions have also started functioning from today.Stating that the entrepreneurs were hit hardest due to the shutdown enforced by the United Democratic Madhesi Front and Tharuhat Struggle Committee, Mahendra Kumar Shrestha, Central Member of the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries urged the agitators to protest in a peaceful manner.

The peaceful agitation waged since nine days had taken violent turn on Thursday when the agitators went on to vandalize vehicles, hospitals and hotels in Bhairahawa and set ablaze public properties.

Police had fired tear gas and resorted to the use of rubber bullets to take the situation under control. Moreover, the district administration office, Rupandehi had clamped curfew effective from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am.

In addition, an all-sided meeting is being held in Bhairahawa to deliberate on how to maintain peace, law and order in the, shared the Chief District Officer of Rupandehi, Bishnu Prasad Dhakal. RSS
