KATHMANDU, July 20: Inspired by the incredible stories of those who narrowly escaped death in the April 25 earthquake, journalist Ganesh Pandey has come up with a 55-minute documentary featuring stories of these survivors.

Titled ‘Bhagyale Bachekaharu: Miracle Survival in Nepal Earthquake’, the documentary features the live video clip of the Dharahara being brought down to the ground by the tremor, and stories of people who got victory over death on that ill-fated day.

Four-month-old Sonis Awal, who was rescued alive 22 hours after being buried under the rubble of his five-story house; Nepal Army’s Deepak Rai and Bikas KC, who rescued baby Sonis; Babita Sedhai, who beat death despite falling down from Dharahara; and Pemba Tamang, who was rescued after being trapped for 112 hours are among some of the major characters whose stories make the documentary.

‘Bhagyale Bachekaharu’ also includes interviews of Armed Police Force Inspector Laxman Basnet who rescued many people alive, and National Poet Laureate Madhav Prasad Ghimire who survived both the 1934 and 2015 earthquakes.

“The April 25 earthquake has scarred the Nepalis for life, and this documentary tries to present that scar,” said Director Pandey, adding, “The documentary doesn’t just narrate the tales of the survivors and the rescuers but also gives message for the construction of New Nepal.”
The charity shows of ‘Bhagyale Bachekaharu’ will soon be held in Nepal and abroad. “The collected money will be used in treatment and assistance of the documentary’s characters,” informed Pandey, who has earlier directed over a dozen documentaries including ‘Antim Sandesh’, ‘Marera Bachekaharu’, and ‘Bahadur Bahini’.
