KATHMANDU, Aug 1: The National Women Commission has said that the Belbari incident was preplanned and that efforts were made to downplay the incident acting upon political connections.

Releasing a report on the incident here Thursday, Spokesperson of the Commission Mohana Ansari said the police were found to have initially denied registering a complaint regarding the incident and later recording statement of the victims without the presence of a policewoman. [break]

The act of the local police and politicians to mediate the incident even after the complaint was filed and the failure of two local journalists to report the incident even after having prior information about it led to the inhuman incident from taking place, reads the report.

In the report, the Commission has called for action against the perpetrators and compensation to the survivors of the incident that took place on July 25.
