Despite the mother party Nepali Congress´s directive not to resort to any violence, cadres of its sister organizations have vandalized a number of vehicles in different parts of the country during the banda on Monday..

NC had earlier announced that the protest would be peaceful. The announcement had come after a meeting between NC and the government on Sunday on NC´s demand failed to bear any fruit. [break]

NC has demanded that the government withdraw all charges leveled against Shiva Poudel and other cadres of the party-affiliated Tarun Dal, declare Poudel a martyr, appoint judicial team to probe the incident and take stern action against the guilty.

The cadres in Gorkha  vandalized a police van (Na 1 Jha 372) early in the morning. Likewise, they burnt down a Maruti van (Ba 9 Cha 3720) near Tilganga in the capital. Similarly, a private car (Ba 1 Ja 163) was also set on fire near Chabahil.

In Itahari, NC cadres chanted slogans against the government and burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai.

The banda enforcers, however, allowed vehicles belonging to the press, diplomatic missions, the Red Cross, human rights organizations, ambulances, vehicles ply on the road.
