Baluwatar, Great Himalayan into semis

KATHMANDU, Jan 18: Baluwatar Cricket Club and Great Himalayan Cricket Academy on Monday sailed into the semifinals of the First National Inter-club Youth Cricket Championship being held at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.

Baluwatar recorded a 46-run win over SS Events and Great Himalayan beat Pulchowk Engineering College by five runs.


In the semifinals, Baluwatar will face Tribhuvan Army Club and Great Himalayan will meet Himalayan Cricket Academy on Tuesday. Army and Himalayan booked their last four spots on Sunday.

Baluwatar, after being invited to bat first against SS Events, posted 141/8 in allotted 20 overs with Rabin Joshi contributing 59 runs off 41 balls that included a six and seven fours. Sonu Tamang (16 off 15) and Sunil Lama (16 off 21) and Shaishav KC (13 off 10) were other major run contributors.

SS Events' Ajay Rajbanshi claimed the highest three wickets, while Ram Naresh Yadav, Lalit Rajbanshi and Irshad Ahmed bagged a wicket each.

In reply, Bijay Gautam's five-wicket haul helped Baluwatar restrict SS Events on 95 runs in 15.4 overs. Dipendra Chaudhary (34 runs off 31 balls) and Subash Khakurel (21 off 16) reached double figures for SS Events.

Bijay claimed the five wickets conceding only six runs in 1.4 overs. Ritesh Singh and Prashanna Shakya pocketed two wickets each.

Similarly, batting first against Pulchowk, Great Himalayan managed 132/5 with Rakesh Karn remaining not out on 47 runs off 45 balls and Pradeep Tandor contributing 30 runs off 26 balls. Rakesh hit two sixes and a four, while Pradeep cracked five fours.

Astik Sharma and Bibek Koirala bagged two wickets and Sumant Sah took one for Pulchowk, which fell six runs short as it managed only 127/8.

Pulchowk failed to achieve the target despite Gaurav Khanal scoring 61 runs off 51 balls that included a six and eight boundaries. Pankaj Shah contributed 20 runs.

Great Himalayan's Ashish Pokharel claimed the highest three wickets and Prakash Bista took one.
