KATHMANDU, Nov 17: The UCPN (Maoist) condemned Friday’s attack on its party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and termed the incident as attack against peace, statute and republic.

Issuing a press statement on Saturday, party Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota also demanded to make public the truth behind the incident  to the concerned authority at the earliest.[break]

A day earlier, a man identified as Padam Kunwar of Baglung district had slapped Maoist Chairman Dahal at a tea reception organized by the UCPN (Maoist) in Bhrikuti Mandap on the occasion of Nepal Sambat and other festivals.

“The preliminary investigation has proved that the incident was pre-planned move of those who are against peace, constitution, change and federalism in the country”, reads the statement.

Saying that the attack was a conspiracy and a ploy to push the country into regression, the party has also urged to manage the appropriate security mechanism to the leaders of all the political parties.

Terming the incident as a criminal act, the party has also urged not to give political color to the incident.

Home Ministry on Friday had formed a three-member investigation committee led by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Nawaraj Dhakal to investigate the incident and come to conclusion within a week. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Keshav Bahadur Khatri and SSP Devendra Subedi are other members of the committee.
