Assam Nepali literary congregation next week

UDALGURI, April 17: With the beginning of Nepali new year 2068, the reception committee of the fourth triennial conference of Asom Nepali Sahitya Sabha, a premiere literary organization, started hectic activities to make the literary congregation of the Nepali speaking population of Assam in Northeast India a grand success.



The three-day literary congregation will be held at the Haribhakta Katowal Kshetram Tingrai Chariali in Dibrugarh, Assam from April 22  to April 24. [break]



Earlier, the conference was to be held from March 25 to March 27 which has been rescheduled due to the assembly elections in the state.



Madan Thapa, general secretary of the literary organization informed this correspondent that the conference would begin with registration of delegates, inauguration of delegates camp followed by the last meeting of the executive body of the ANSS on first day while on second day on April 23, KB Chetry, president of the central body of ANSS will hoist the Sabha flag.



This will be followed by homage to the martyrs, tree plantation, inauguration of cultural exhibition, book fair, first sitting of delegates, multilingual poets’ meet, seminar on ´ The present situation in Assam and the Assamese Nepali which will be inaugurated by Dr Narayan Upadhyaya, renowned surgeon of neurology of Assam Medical College hospital, Dibrugarh which will be conducted by Sahitya Akademy award recipient for translation works in Nepali.



The another topic of the seminar is ´Asom Nepali Sahitya Sabha- Uddeshya Ra Gatibidhi’--  the keynote address of which will be delivered by Madan Thapa, general secretary of the literary organization. The third topic of the seminar ´Nepali Pathan-pathanko Gurutwa Ra Hamro Kartavya’ will be conducted by Abikeshar Sarmah, renowned author of Assam.



The last day of the conference on April 24 will begin with a cultural procession to be inaugurated by the deputy commissioner of Dibrugarh district while the open session will be inaugurated by Dr Laxmi Prasad Parajuli, adviser of the organization and KB Chetry, president of the ANSS will preside over the open session.



Tarun Gogoi, chief minister of Assam is likely to grace the open session as the chief guest while, Padmashri Rongbong Terang, president of Assam Sahitya Sabha, Fr Nagen Saikia, former president of Assam Sahitya Sabha, Tanka Bahadur Rai, speaker of Assam Legislative Assambly, Veerbhadra Karkidholi, renowened poet of Sikkim, etc will attend the open session as distinguished guests among many others. Hari Gajurel, renowened Nepali litterateur of Assam, will deliver the keynote address as appointed speaker on the occasion.



It is to be noted that more than 3.25 lakh Nepali speaking population of Assam will witness the main literary agenda of the ANSS congregation either physically or through television channels btween April 22 and April 24.
