Aspiring economists' meet kicks off

KATHMANDU: Aspiring young economists from different countries of South Asia have gathered in Kathmandu to discuss on regional cooperation in terms of environment challenges frontier.



According to a press release issued on Tuesday, the budding economists will share their ideas on ´Towards a green South Asia´ in the 9th annual South Asia Economic Student Meet (SAESM) in order to foster new strategies on sustainable development in the region.



The World Bank, primary partner of the event, has said that the event will put an emphasis on regional cooperation for sustainable development through youth engagement.



“This will promote regional integration in South Asia, connecting people across the region as a way of lowering barriers to greater integration and peaceful prosperity,” the release quoted Isabel Guerrero, vice president, South Asia Region of the World Bank as saying in the meeting. “This event taps into the creative ideas of young economists on how South Asia can grow economically without harming its environment that is a precious resource for so many of its people.”



Further, the event provides a platform for students to bring fresh perspectives and share innovative research to promote mutual understanding of common development challenges through cross-cultural exchange, as per the release.



Tribhuvan University is hosting the event.
