The company had not responded to the operator´s repeated requests for an early delivery of the machinery for full eight months.[break]
However, it agreed to deliver the goods after NT threatened to confiscate the lock-up money of Rs 750,000 and award the contract to another solution provider. AsiaInfo senior officials met NT top brass this week in the capital.
Going by the contract agreement, AsiaInfo was required to start delivering the machinery from six months of winning the contract. "The money was not that huge, but confiscation of lock-up money would have dampened its goodwill in the international market," said an NT official, disclosing the fresh delivery commitment of AsiaInfo.
AsiaInfo officials during the meeting claimed that they could not comply with the contract agreement because the company encountered problems with companies that it partnered with for the project - HP and Oracle.
NT had placed the order for the machinery as per its plan to start convergent billing system from the next year. Its introduction, which will link all the billing system of the NT, is believed to make payment of bills easy and hassle-free.
Once the system comes into place, NT customers can make payment for Internet, mobile, PSTN or any other services through a single bill and from any counter. At present, NT customers are compelled to visit different offices and counters for the payment of bills of different services.
The state-owned operator is investing Rs 2 billion to implement the plan.
