Indigenous Naumuthe cow disappearing


The Naumuthe cow is the world's smallest cattle breed found only in four districts, Achham, Bajhang, Bajura and Doti. In lack of conservation, this 88 cm cow is on the verge of extinction.  Achham, which is the place of origin for this breed of cow, has only 477.



Jumla’s stolen God replaced by new


In November 2016, 22 idols of Hindu gods and goddesses, including that of God Dattatreya were stolen from Jumla’s Chandannath temple.  While most were recovered from a nearby village in January 2017, the 18 kg idol of God Dattatreya wasn’t. However, after a Baba from Dehradhun agreed to pay for construction of another idol of the god, it has now been replaced.

Teenage couple faces music for child marriage


Police arrested a teenage couple from Rukum on charges of child marriage. Police have informed that the couple will be counseled well without any further punishment but if they do not follow the legal criteria, they would be taken into custody. This is the 13th marriage being cancelled in the district in the name of child marriage.


Overtaking bus rams into truck injuring 27


Twenty-seven passengers were injured when an overtaking passenger bus rammed with the truck on early Saturday. The bus, NA 6 KHA, 1926, was en-route to Kathmandu from Kakadbhitta when it collided head-on with a truck at Gajuri rural municipality. The injured passengers have been taken to Kathmandu for further treatment. 


Saudi-led strike 'kills dozens' of Yemen rebels in new blow


A Saudi-led coalition air strike has killed dozens of Yemeni insurgents including two commanders in another blow to the rebels following the assassination of their political chief.  The rebels have been locked in a war since 2015 with a Saudi-led military alliance fighting to restore the internationally-recognised Yemeni government to power.


Maradona leaving UAE team after missing automatic promotion


Diego Maradona has left his coaching job in the United Arab Emirates after his team failed to win automatic promotion to the top division. The former Argentina World Cup winner was managing UAE first division club Al Fujairah, which was bidding for a place in the Arabian Gulf League, the UAE's top flight.
