Chief District Officer of Nawalparasi, Hari Prasad Mainali, said that all 36 doors of the Gandak canal were opened in view of possible burst of the blocked Kaligandaki river.
Mainali further said that locals have been urged to remain alert, saying downstream settlements of Rakuwa, Dedhgaun, Mithukaram, Bharatipur, Bulingtar, Dandajheri, Kotthar and Ratanpur are at risk.
The locals of 20 VDCs from Gaindakot to Tribeni Susta have been alerted, as water level in Narayani river could experience a sudden rise with the Kaligandaki river converging into the Narayani at Devghat. CDO Mainali said that authorities in neighbouring India have also been informed as the impact could be felt in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh of India.
Security personnel have been mobilized along the river banks. Police Inspector at the Area Police office, Nawalpur, Krishna Sapkota, said the District Administration Office, Nawalpur, has been urging locals to remain alert through local media. RSS
