Police had arrested and filed case at the district court against Ghanashyam Paudel of Bharatpur Municipality-8, Sakham Khawas aka Sachi of Bidur Municipality-9, June Limbu of Dharan Municipality-15 of Sunsari.
Police arrested Khawas and Limbu from a room no. 104 of Bharatpur-based Hotel Island Jungle Resort while they were asking for Rs 3 million from the doctor on February 19, 2015. Poudel was arrested the next day.
The accused had allegedly abducted Dr Thapa from the Narayani Community Hospital, according to police.
Police had further said that Dr Thapa was abducted with view to extort money in connection with settling a court case of Rita Puri of Chainpur of the district.
Puri had filed a case against the doctor in the District Court for verification of relationship with him, which is subjudiced in the court.
Police then claimed that Dr Thapa was made captive as the hostage-takers might have assured him that the case would be withdrawn from the court.
Police had also claimed that the alleged abductors had also extorted the Rs 13 lakh prior to the incident.
Police had further claimed that it might have been a conspiracy on the part of Rita Puri to extort five million rupees from the doctor for an out-of-court settlement of the case. Rita, who was accused of killing her son, has been in prison since November 7, 2013. Police said the trio had met to Rita in the prison and conspired to kidnap the doctor.
Dr Thapa had already paid Rs 1.37 million expecting the case to be settled outside the court prior to this incident.
